Rural Commonwealth Business Series
The Rural Commonwealth Business Series explores the scope, successes, and needs of businesses in rural Massachusetts. It provides fresh information – gleaned in part from under-utilized municipal records and interviews with local business owners – that will serve as a solid foundation for targeted economic development work in the state’s smaller communities.
Report #1: Western Franklin County Business Report
The first report in this series was released on October 5, 2017. The purpose of this report, which provides an on-the-ground view of the business community in Western Franklin County (aka “West County”), is two-fold:
- to help provide a better understanding about the business community in this rural part of the state for policy makers, journalists, and others; and
- to identify concrete economic development projects that would build on the strengths, assets, and needs of the existing West County business community.
